As a Lead Editor, you will report directly to the Senior Production Director to lead the editorial team and work closely with our production, creative and business leads across the network, working on some of the world's leading brands on broadcast and OLV content. 

This person will embody offline editing expertise and creative excellence within Magic Circle Workshop. They will stay ahead of industry trends and ensure all deliverables meet the highest quality standards. Serving as both a recognized expert and a coach, they will drive the development and influence of the craft, both internally and externally.

You’ll be joining a team of 50+ full time makers: editors, directors, coordinators, line producers, motion graphics artists, AI artists, post producers and agency producers with multiple expertise. Our team comes from various backgrounds and levels of experience, and we operate as a collaborative collective where everyone supports one another. We also work closely with our 70+ counterparts in Montreal, collaborating closely within our national post production offering as one team. 

We hold ourselves to a high bar of excellence, with a genuine desire to produce incredible creative and a high level of craft and polish in everything we touch. We work hard but we also believe that a production environment should be genuinely fun.

 

Transparency matters to us. For this role, you can expect a salary between $120,000-140,000 annually, depending on experience. This is for a new vacancy. 


Who you are:

  • Master Storyteller: Be an artist of storytelling across all lengths and formats.

  • Creative Excellence: Ensure the delivery of creative products that align with the agency’s quality standards.

  • Quality Control: Oversee the QC process for all project deliveries.

  • Workflow Optimization: Help define and deploy work methodologies, collaborating with the post-production team to optimize existing processes.

  • Key Liaison: Act as a bridge between the creative team and project managers at Septième.

  • Technical & Creative Lead: Serve as the go-to expert for editing techniques and all related satellite software.

  • Practice Leadership: Maintain, elevate, and evolve the overall standard of editing expertise within the agency.



what you will do. 

  • Be a versatile and multi-faceted creative editor with an understanding of both scripted / narrative and unscripted material.

  • Creative minded, with strong conceptual and storytelling abilities and a relentless pursuit of creative excellence.

  • Partner with creative teams to bring their vision to life and actively take the lead in executing world-class creative ideas.

  • Provide extensive expertise in video and editorial post-production across all mediums including broadcast and social.

  • Be client facing and confidently work closely with client teams throughout the production process, acting as true leader during internal or client attended edit sessions and reviews.

  • Manage a team of editors and editorial assistants, passionate about mentorship and scaling a team.

  • Be instrumental in scaling a fast growing editorial department, advising on process and best-in-class workflow for all post production.

  • Partnering with the national director leads in identifying and growing our internal post house offering opportunities beyond offline editorial (online, audio, VFX, colour etc.).

  • Lead discussions and evaluate new IT products, production equipment, and post production equipment and supplies.

  • Entrepreneurial minded, continually looking for opportunities for process optimization, working closely with the team leads to find efficiencies across productions.

  • Assist all department directors and post producers in improving our process, suggest new workflows as needed.   

  • Be amenable to all types of client work requirements from highly creative TV/Web video campaigns to small internal jobs, client sizzles and case studies. Bring the same creative excitement regardless of the job. 

 

what you’ll bring to the table.

  • Experience in managing multiple projects on large scale broadcast and OLV productions.

  • Strong understanding of live-action and post-production workflow and ability to guide team on best practises.

  • A background at a post production house or vast experience editing broadcast and web commercial outputs. Docu, long format, social and other video mediums a bonus but key skill set required is commercial based. 

  • Passionate about production, creative opportunities and best-in-class work.

  • Desire to constantly push boundaries of creative craft and always over deliver on expectations.

  • Proficient in Adobe Suite (Premier, After Effects) and FCPX. Experience in other offline editing platforms advantageous.

  • Motion graphics and basic colour correction, audio mixing and online finishing experience.
     
  • Experience working with clients in the food, consumer products and retail space.

  • Strong desire to build relationships with creative team, directors, producers and other interagency groups.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to articulately convey your ideas to a variety of different team members.

  • As a key face of our team within the broader Plus Company network, a great bedside manner is essential. We’re looking for someone who brings a calm, positive, and solutions-oriented energy to every interaction, especially when navigating conflicts or tight deadlines.

  • A finger on the pulse of industry trends and high-end craft, bringing fresh inspiration to the table and staying up to date on the latest interesting or buzzworthy campaigns.

  • Proficiency using AI tools within production and post-production, with a deep curiosity to collaborate with our creative technologists and AI artists.

  • An excitement for AI and tech innovations, balanced by a practical understanding of how to implement them responsibly within a real-world workflow.

  • Ability to communicate technical limitations or changes to the team in a way that remains inspiring and open to iteration.

  • Experience mentoring junior roles, formal management experience is a plus.

  • Toronto-based with flexibility to work extended hours and/or weekends to meet project deadlines (when absolutely necessary).

  • Hybrid role, in office a minimum of three times per week or more as required per project. A desire to come in to edit suites daily to foster collaboration and build relationships is ideal.

  • Bi-lingual in English and French advantageous but not a requirement.
